Transardinia Classic 2010
Day 1.Arrival in Olbia Individual arrival at the hotel near Olbia.In the late afternoon-evening meeting with the guides IchnusaBike, check up of the bike, dinner and overnight.
Day 2.Step 1.Olbia - Mamone Through
the Pilgrims and other ancient roads of transhumance leave behind us
the Costa Smeralda and reach the vast plateau of Ala dei Sardi where
silence is imposed and the view, open to endless spaces that will be
fixed references in this passage. In
the evening we reach our small farm shelter that places like the next
step will enable us to sample the delights of Sardinian cuisine. Cycle: 72 km - Elevation: 1800 m
Day 3.Step 2.Mamone - Oliena Transfer day before meeting the most demanding stages of Transardinia. Across an expanse of oak trees, we come near the sacred well nuragico Su Tempiesu.Our continuous up and down will take us up to Oliena, we cross toget to our hotel at the foot of Supramonte. Cycle: 62 km - 1400 m vertical drop
Day 4.Step 3.Oliena - Fonni Definitely the toughest day as regards the type of road surface but definitely the most exciting! The
climb to the Supramonte seems endless but the view overlooking the
valley, the reward for your hard work and allows us to admire this wild
and untouched. The
day is not over, we leave the Supramonte satisfied and the hotel where
we go as usual, after dinner, we stopped in for a chat by the fireplace. Cycle: 51 km - 1500 m vertical drop
Day 5.Step 4.Fonni - Desulo Today we face the escalation of Bruncu Spina. Approaching
the summit of the highest mountain of Sardinia weather conditions often
become extreme but once on top, we are rewarded by the spectacular
scenery that ranges from the mountains of Corsica to the Gulf of
Cagliari. We
continue our way along a technical descent that will bring us near the
shelter where Mario is waiting for another memorable dinner of typical
products. Cycle: 53 miles - 1700 m vertical drop
Day 6.Step 5.Desulo - Seui We
are now on the side ogliastrini Gennargentu where a barren and desolate
landscape replaces the previous stages of the holm oak and chestnut,
this is also Transardinia! The
time to visit the ruins of the village Nuragic Orruinas and down along
a path of charcoal, after which, traced back to the top and admire the
spectacular heel Perda Liana. A few more miles and we are Seui; small town Ogliastra, still capable of giving the visitor a glimpse of yesteryear. Cycle: 65 km - 1700 m vertical drop
Day 7.Step 6.Seui - Villasalto There is no ceasefire, this is a day of climbing! We
start to follow an old mule track over the past centuries was used by
the village women to go to the river to do laundry, and from there,
going through the desert plateau of the Salto di Quirra until the
descent that will take us to the feet of where the inevitable
Villasalto Sardinian cuisine, we will repay the labors of the day and
prepare us the last leg of our journey. Cycle: 72 km - 1850 m vertical drop
Day 8.Step 7.Villasalto - Cagliari Last stop!After breakfast we still had time to take a stroll through the streets of the townand visit a small craft that produces an excellent liquor liquor Myrtle. Skirted
the Mount Genis, opens before us an almost North African landscape that
will not fail for this reason of its plaintive beauty. Soon the Gulf of Cagliari, will prove to us for the last stretch of this journey that eventually will allow us to reach the sea. Arrival at the beach for a well deserved break, lunch, final farewell and transfer to the port / airport for their departure. Cycle: 52 km - 1405 m vertical drop
